One of the most important documents for first generation students is the FAFSA( Free Application for Student Aid). It is free to apply for FAFSA. It is very important for every student to fill the FAFSA, it is your key to education with low financial burden to you and your family. Tips for First Generation


In order to correctly and completely fill out the FAFSA, please follow the following rules:

  • FAFSA has to be filled out by both parents and students in 2 separate logins.
  • FSAid is an 'id' that has to created by each member for logging into the FAFSA. 
  • You can create FSAid in the FAFSA website. 
  • FSAids are to be created separately for students and parents for each application.
  • Please set the deadline for completion of FAFSA to 10/15/20XX. 
  • You can add unto 10 colleges on your FAFSA.
  • Most grants are first come first served in many colleges.
  • FAFSA forms do not determine the eligibility of ACCEPTANCE into any college.
  • Some colleges have multiple grants.

 Information and requirements of the FAFSA:

·Name and address of student (Address where the student lives).
·Name and address of each of the parent or responsible parent
·Social Security Number, Driver’s License and Birthday of student and parents. (It is Ok, if you do not have a social security number, please enter 000-00-0000 in the field).
·Email address of student and parents (If the parents don't have an email address it is Ok, leave the field blank)
·State where student and parents live in.
·Education qualification of student and parents (It is Ok, if the parents don't have any education)
·Income and assets of the parent. (It is ok if the parent does not have any income). 
·Income and assets of the student. (It is ok if the student does not have any income).
·List of colleges you need the FAFSA application to be sent.
